'Most people know Greg Graffin as the lead singer of the punk band Bad Religion, but few know that he also received his Ph.D. from Cornell University & teaches evolution at UCLA. In his new book, Graffin argues that art and science have a deep connection.

2010 DUMBO Farmers' Market

On Sunday, June 6th, local growers and food producers will set up their tents in the Pearl Street Triangle for the first day of the weekly DUMBO Farmers' Market.

In addition to the local produce, barrel pickles, artisan breads, baked good and organic nuts and nut-butters available from last year's vendors, this season's market will feature new products like: raw honey from Burt's Mountain Honey, gourmet marinated vegetables from Dolce Nonna and specialty mini quiche and savory bites from Yona's Delights!

Empire Fulton Ferry Closing

Message from Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation:

Empire Fulton Ferry will close as of January 1, 2010 as constrution gets underway to implement a series of exciting park improvements. This section of Brooklyn Bridge Park will be home to Jane's Carousel, a gift of Jane and David Walentas. The magnificent restored 1922 carousel will be housed in a beatiful pavillion designed by Pritzker-Prize winning architect Jean Nouvel, making the carousel availbe for use in all seasons. Additional imporvements to the Empire Fulton Ferry landscape include:

-extension of the park lawn to the south across the current alignment of New Dock Street
-installation of stormwater retention tanks to irrigate the park's natural features
-installation of park furnishings including railings, benches, picnic tables, and bike racks
-installation of lighting so that the park will be open after dark for the first time since its opening in 1979, and
-Re-grading the park to improve drainage

Scheduled Re-Opening: Spring 2011

We appreciate everyone's patience while we make these improvements to Empire Fulton Ferry and we are working diligently to open Pier 1 of Brooklyn Bridge Park as early in 2010 as possible.
